the other vampire murder case (part six)

This story started here.

Jason knocked and came in. "I'm sorry to intrude," he said, "but I wanted to make sure you weren't painting poor Ryan as some sort of victim, just because he's dead. These people need to see how he really was."

"And you're going to tell us all the details?" Jan asked. "For scientific reasons?"

He laughed. "It's no secret that I didn't like him that much." He shrugged. "I didn't hate him, but he didn't behave well. He'd lived here long enough to know that Claudia is..."

"She's not... loose," Erika said. "She's in one relationship at a time."

"But she's not about to marry anybody, let's just say that."

My employer nodded. "I get the idea. And Ryan had been replaced?"

There was a pause.

"I need the truth, or I can't help."

"She says that there is no new lover," Jason said, "that she just got tired of Ryan."

"Which is possible," Erika said.

"But we both know it's not true. She's got somebody new, who she's keeping quiet about for some reason."
